The Russian cellist, pianist, conductor and composer was born in Leningrad,
(now St. Petersburg) in 1986. In 2005 he completed his BA at the Rimsky-Korsakov
Conservatory in St. Petersburg, where he studied cello with Anatoly Nikitin
and composition with Alexander Mnatzakhanian, a pupil of Dmitri Shostakovich.
He perfected his studies in Boston, Paris and the Vienna Conservatory.
Sagaydo has participated in master classes and received private lessons
from Mstislav Rostropovich, David Geringas, Siegfried Palm, Natalia
Shakhovskaya, Pieter Wispelwey, Georg Mark, Vasiliy Sinaysky Jorma Palula,
Benjamin Zander and Mark Reizenshtok.
He has won numerous competitions. Some of the most important are the
International Dotzauer Competicion (Dresden, Germany), the New Names
Competition (Moscow, Russia), the International Kichompre Competition
(France) and the International Gartow Stiftung Competition (San Petersburg,
Russia). As a pianist he had a special first place and an Honorable Mention.
He also won the Duetino Competition (Russia).
He has been invited to various international festivals,
like the Second Rostropovich World Congress of cellists in St. Petersburg
(1997), the International Arolsen Festival in Germany (1998), the
lnternational Youth Festival in Berlin Euro Classics (2003) and many
others.
He has been principal
cellist of the Saint Petersburg State Capella, the Russian Youth Philharmonic,
the Neuhardenberg Academy, the Orchestra of San Luis Potosi and the Italian
Symphony Orchestra.
He has performed with the Shostakovich Philharmonia, the Moscow Conservatory,
the School of Sacred Music in Rome, the Rathaus and the Konzerthaus in Berlin
and has been soloist with the Orchestra of St. Petersburg Conservatory, the
Chamber Orchestra of Wiesbaden, the National Symphony Orchestras of Ecuador and
El Salvador, as well as the ensemble Soloists of St. Petersburg and many other
groups. In Mexico, Vladimir has appeared as soloist at the National Auditorium
with the Symphony Orchestra of the Polytechnical Institute (IPN), in the
Nezahualcoyotl Concert Hall with the UNAM Philharmonic Orchestra and the
Orchestra of San Luis Potosi, to only list the most important venues. He has
played in Poland, Germany, Switzerland, France, Italy, Spain, United States and
several Latin American countries.
Vladimir is dedicated to the research and interpretation of contemporary and
early music. He promotes Latin American music in other countries. He has offered
Mexican music programs at Russian festivals since 2003. He also created a
quintet which plays music from Piazzolla and in Munich he created a trio with
which he recorded works by Ponce, Rachmaninov and Shostakovich.
His repertoire includes over 15 cello concertos and over 40 sonatas and suites.
He has premiered over two dozens of works by various composers, especially young
people like him, for cello and chamber music. He has composed over 20 works for
cello, viola, piano and orchestra.
Currently he is completing his Masters Cello degree at the Moscow Classical
State Academy under the tutelage of the remarkable cellist Vasilieva Alia, who
has been named People's Artist, the highest artistic distinction in Russia.
As a conductor, Vladimir made his debut with the Symphony Orchestra of
Kaliningrad, performing works by Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert and Strauss. Since
the fall of 2009, he works as assistant conductor both of orchestras and opera,
operatic training and musical theater direction and composition at the St.
Petersburg Conservatory.
In October 2009 Vladimir Sagaydo won the grand prize Hope of Russia, awarded by
various cultural and educational state institutions.
