Irina was born in Irkutsk,
eastern Siberia, in a family of musicians.
She began her musical studies at the age of 7. At eleven, she was accepted
at the Central Musical School in Moscow where she stayed for seven years
under the tutelage of Tamara Koloss. She continued her studies at the
Moscow Tchaikovsky State Conservatory with Oleg Ivanov and Tatiana
Nikolaeva. She graduated as Soloist, chamber artist and teacher with a MFa
degree.
In Russia she has given recitals and participated with several orchestras
in prestigious concert halls. She toured several Russian cities giving
concerts under the baton of Maestro Fuat Mansurov.
She currently resides in Mexico City, where she teaches piano and chamber
music at the Escuela Superior de Música (Institute of Fine Arts –INBA). In
Mexico she has played at the most important venues: the Sala
Nezahualcoyotl, the Palace of Fine Arts, Manuel M.
Ponce and Carlos Chávez Concert Halls, the
Blas Galindo Auditorium, Amphitheater Simón Bolívar, the former
Archbishop's Palace and the National Museum
of Arts, to name a few.
Within Mexico she has been invited to various concert halls and cultural
festivals, most notably the Festival Internacional Cervantino,
International Festival of Morelia, International Piano Festival in Black
and White, the International Forum of New Music and the Festival
Cultural de Zacatecas.
Abroad she has performed at the International Festival of Chamber Music in
Stavanger, Norway, and the Spring Festival in Vermont, USA. She also has
played at various concert halls of Russia, Germany, Belgium, Norway, USA
and Holland.
Irina Shishkin has developed outstanding musical projects in collaboration
with the UNAM (National Autonomous University of Mexico) and has obtained
sponsorship from private companies. In 2006 she received the award from
the Mexican Union of Chroniclers of Theater and Music for her concert
series "Anthology of Russian Music", dedicated to disseminating the work
of Russian composers, with special emphasis on the full repertoire of
chamber music by Dimitri Shostakovich.
Irina also has participated in radio broadcasts, television programs and
film. The live concert recorded with the famous Russian violist Mikhail
Duivenvoorde Zemtsov remained for one year at the first place on the
favorites list of the Dutch Radio Station Classical Radio 4.
She recently recorded the disc The sound of Russian bells (Urtext Digital
Classics).
Many of her students have won awards at national and international
competitions.
