The Santa Cecilia Ensemble presents a concert of Mexican
music of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries by leading composers
of the time. Simultaneously, while the music is played, photos and video
are projected to show various aspects of life in Mexico at that time. For this project, special musical arrangements were made for the Santa Cecilia Ensemble, because most of the best music of this era is written for solo piano. The arrangements were commissioned by Arco & Lira to the composers Dmitry Dudin and Horacio Uribe.
The visual material gathered for this project consists of over 250 original photographs loaned of the Film Library of the INAH (National Anthropology and History Institute) and the National Museum of Photography in Mexico City. It also presents several of the earliest films about social life in Mexico, loaned from the of the Film Library at UNAM. Arco & Lira has permission of these institutions to use this material as part of the show.
The photographs show rural landscapes and
urban scenes in major cities across the country. They offer a broad overview of
work and social live in Mexico after the Independence.
