Alfredo Ibarra’s return to the Michoacan University Chamber Orchestra leaves a good flavor.

Alfredo Ibarra was born in Mexico City. He obtained his conducting diploma from the Mexican National Conservatory of Music, under the tutelage of Istvan Horvath. He continued his post-graduate studies with Antón Kersjes in the Maastricht Conservatory, Netherlands, and in Munich, Germany, with Sergiu Celibidache. In August 1996 he started a series of recordings with the German Ingolstadt Philharmonic Orchestra, for which he became principal Guest Conductor.

Ibarra was semi-finalist for the Kirill Kondrashin contest in Amsterdam and was granted the Mexican National Youth Prize for his participation with the Mexican Superior School of Music Orchestra.

He has conducted important symphonic orchestras in Mexico and Europe, like the Avanti-Kapel Orchestra from Maastricht, Netherlands, for which he was also Assistant Conductor, and the Santa Cecilia di Roma Orchestra. He has also conducted opera.

nternational media has defined Alfredo Ibarra as “an exceptional conductor and virtuoso, both as conductor and for his excellent taste when selecting composers.”

As Artistic Director, he has participated with several Mexican orchestras like the Michoacan Symphony Orchestra (for 10 years), the Naucalpan Orchestra, the Superior School of Music Orchestra, the Aguascalientes Theater Orchestra, the Zacatecas University Orchestra, and the National Polytechnic Institute Orchestra. He was also Principal Conductor for the UNAM School of Music Choir. He founded the Ars Viva Orchestra in Mexico City.
At present he is Principal Conductor of the State of the Puebla Symphony Orchestra and the Coyoacan Symphony Orchestra (Mexico City).
