In May 2010 they opened Chick Corea at the XII International Puebla Festival in the center of that city, for more than 2,000 people.
5o Elemento will pretty soon surprise us with another CD. The second in their list, with compositions of their own, this new production will surely strengthen the group in the jazz atmosphere of Mexico and the world.
5° Elemento approaches the sound of famous quintets such as Miles Davis’ in the sixties, but sets forth contemporary atmospheres that go from themes recreated with a Spanish influence, to themes that recreate what a contemporary jazz quintet might be playing in any place where jazz is played: New York, Canada or Europe.
The group had its debut in Mexico City’s Club New Orleans; they have remained together since the summer of 1999. The musicians use the resources of each instrument. Combinations such as bugle with soprano sax, trumpet and flute, or tenor sax and fluge horn allow for an interesting auditive fusion as they explore various sound atmospheres.
The rhythmic base of the double bass, the drums and the piano interact supporting each improvisation. Most of the group members participate as composers.
In some of their concerts they have had national and foreign guest musicians such as Canadian trombone player Dave Mc Murdo, or Mexican sax players Juan Ramos, Jako Gonzáles, Alejandro Campos and Giovani Figueroa, among others. The band explores traditional styles from swing, bebop, cool jazz, modal jazz, to Latin jazz.
The show is based on the high musical quality of the players. 5°Elemento is formed by Mexican musicians who create in their concerts a sonorous exposition drawing from the style of jazz, thus creating an endless variety of true moods and atmospheres.
Among other venues, they have performed at Papa Beto Jazz Bistro, La Bodega, Zinco Jazz Bar, Restaurante New Orleans, Soul Bar Jazz, El Convite and D’Polak Forum. They have also given concerts during the Seminario Internacional de Jazz in Xalapa, Veracruz; at the Lunario; Hermilo Novelo Hall of Centro Cultural Ollin Yolliztli; Foro Coyoacanense; Plaza de las Artes at Centro Nacional de las Artes; Tecnológico de Monterrey campus Tepepan; Bacomext Auditorium; and UNITEC. In May 2010 they opened Chick Corea at the XII International Puebla Festival in the center of that city, for more than 2,000 people. They recently presented their album Swing para una nota at the Blas Galindo Hall in Centro Nacional de las Artes.

SWING PARA UNA NOTA
Alain Derbez, author of the book El jazz en México, comments on the album of El 5°Elemento: “the sum of five… six (…)”
5) Only the gratitude and enjoyment of this first album remains: the elements are the piano and compositions of Felipe; the tied up blending of winds of Gabriel’s trumpets and Jose Angel’s saxophones and flute; the base to build and weave of Juan Cristobal’s bass and Mario’s drums; the easy incorporation as a result of the closeness of guests Jako, Juan and Israel; the compositions of the other members of the band and Pat and Mike’s as if they had worked especially for the band and their arrangements. And the professional work of making it sound truly as it sounds and has sounded. The sixth element remains —the first in importance: your attentive ears, the whole body.
